Getting started

Which devices does Miauw work on?

Android phones and tablets running Android 7.0 or newer, Android Auto, and Android TV or Google TV. It is free on Google Play.

Do I need a Google account?

Only for Google Drive. To play music saved on your device, choose Browse Local Files or Continue without setup on the first screen.

Which audio formats are supported?

FLAC, MP3, WAV, OGG, Opus, AAC and M4A (including ALAC), and other formats your device can decode. Albums, artists and cover art are read from the files' tags.

How do I add music from my phone?

Open Profile → Local files → Browse, then pick single songs or a whole folder.

Google Drive

How do I add music from Google Drive?

Open Profile → Google Drive, sign in, then browse My Drive, Shared drives or Shared with me and select songs or folders. Folders are imported with everything inside them, and the import shows its progress for each folder.

Why does Miauw ask for access to my whole Drive?

To list and play the music you choose, Miauw needs read-only access to Drive. It never changes or deletes your files. The only files it writes are the small TV song list in a Miauw folder, if you use Android TV. See the privacy policy for details.

I added a folder twice. Will I get duplicate albums?

No. Songs from the same album join the existing album, even when they were added through different folders. To clean up older duplicates, use Profile → Duplicates.

Offline

Can I listen without an internet connection?

Yes. Music saved on your device always plays offline. For Google Drive songs, turn on Profile → Enable offline cache, then cache albums or playlists, or turn on Auto-cache on play to keep every song you play. Set the space it may use with Max cache size.

Are offline copies safe?

Offline copies are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key kept in the Android Keystore, so they only play inside Miauw on your device.

Android TV

How do I sign in on my TV?

Open Miauw on the TV and choose Google Drive. The TV shows a short code. On your phone or computer, go to google.com/device, enter the code and sign in. No typing passwords with the remote.

How do I choose which songs play on my TV?

On your phone, open Profile → Set up TV and pick the songs for your TV. They appear on every TV signed in with the same Google account.

Can the TV play music from a USB drive?

Yes. In the TV app, open Local files → Find music on this TV. Miauw lists the folders it finds on the TV and on plugged-in USB drives, and you choose which to add. Keep the USB drive plugged in to play them.

Sound

What is Hi-Res Output?

In Profile → Audio output you can choose how Miauw sends audio to Android. AudioTrack Output is the recommended choice and works on every device. Hi-Res Output plays at each file's own sample rate on an exclusive stream when your device allows it, and works best with a USB DAC. It is experimental, so switch back if a device misbehaves. Restart the app after changing it.

Can I have a different equalizer for my headphones and my speaker?

Yes. The equalizer keeps a profile for each output device, so wired headphones, Bluetooth headphones, a USB DAC and the phone speaker can each have their own settings. Choose a preset or make your own in Profile → Equalizer.

Why does Audio info not show my Bluetooth codec?

Android 13 and newer only let system apps read the Bluetooth codec. You can see and change it in Android's Developer options → Bluetooth audio codec.

Moving from the previous version

Will I lose my library when Miauw updates to 1.0?

No. The first time you open Miauw 1.0 it offers to import your songs, playlists, favourites, settings and Google Drive offline copies from the previous version. If you skipped it, use Profile → Import from the previous version.

Can I delete the previous version's data?

After the import, Profile → Delete old data removes the previous version's database and files to free space. Your library in Miauw 1.0 is not affected.

Still need help?

Send an email with your phone model and Miauw version (Profile → About). For playback problems, Profile → Debug log can send the error details.
